“Hello. You’re Sick and Need Surgery. Have a Nice Day.”
Patients need more than a few minutes to understand their condition
and consent to surgery.
A new service now helps patients to become well informed.
Palm Harbor, Fl - May 2010 - PULSE of Florida, a Patient Safety Advocacy serving the
Tampa Bay area, now offers a new Patient Education Service.
“We help patients become well informed about their condition, treatment and surgery,”
said PULSE owner, Douglas Hall - Patient Safety Advocate.
“Patients are becoming “activated”. They and their family want to understand their condition
and be able to communicate effectively with their doctors.
The problem is that today’s healthcare system doesn’t allow time for thorough patient education
and surgical informed consent information.
PULSE of Florida solves this problem and informs patients by using professional patient education products presented one-to-one by registered nurses at your home, office or hospital room”, added, Mr. Hall.
The benefits of becoming well-informed about your condition:
1.
Enables you to have educated conversations with your doctors
2.
You’ll ask intelligent questions and understand the answers
3.
You and your family are more confident about your care
4.
You’ll feel more in control during this chaotic episode of your life
Services: PULSE of Florida uses an all registered nurse staff to provide patient-centered education,
custom medical research reports, inpatient safety monitoring, medical record digitizing,
doctor appointment accompaniment, doctor/hospital evaluations and medical error support.
The PULSE online Bookstore has hundreds of patient safety books and products.
Active and retired healthcare professionals are encouraged to join the
PULSE of Florida Patient Safety Advisory Board.

Dysfunctional Healthcare Syndrome
The Scene opens at your doctors office appointment:
Good Morning Mrs. Smith. It's Miss Smythe. Well anyway, your test results are back and I think you have Pneumonoultramicroscopticsilicovolcanoconeosis. Huh? Lets start treatment right away.
I'll arrange for a PET scan and CAT scan, some surgery, radiation treatments and lab tests.
Have you had an AFB, BNP, CBC, DHEAS, or ESR in the last year? Huh?
This is a rare condition so I'd like my colleague Dr. Greenhorn to do some tests too.
So, I'll see you at the hospital tomorrow. Any questions? No? OK. Bye, gotta run.
What was that about my cat?"
PULSE of Florida - Palm Harbor Florida - May 2010:
Sounds like Dysfunctional Healthcare Syndrome, a bad case too.
Although this scene is extreme it can seem real to patients who are unaware of the how healthcare works.
Functional and safer healthcare is possible, but you and your family have to help make it happen.
This according to Douglas Hall, owner of PULSE of Florida, a Patient Safety Advocacy
in Palm Harbor, Florida, www.PULSEofFlorida.org.
"We help patients find the right doctor, the right hospital and the right information for their needs and priorities,
We use an all registered nurse staff to help patients and their family become well informed, protected and comfortable during this chaotic time of their life", added Mr. Hall.
Research involving patient-centered care shows that the more involved a patient and family, the better the quality of care and better the results. The problem is that todays healthcare system doesn't allow for thorough explanation of the patient's condition, surgical options, risks and benefits of recommended surgeries,
alternative and complimentary medical options.
As a result, patients often don't understand their treatment plan.
This results in poor compliance of their doctor's recommendations and possible serious medication errors or
re-admissions for the original medical problem.
"If the patient and family are informed and involved they can communicate better with their healthcare team and become an active partner in making treatment decisions. This involvement usually motivates your healthcare team to provide even better care", said Mr.Hall.
Services: PULSE of Florida uses an all registered nurse staff to provide patient-centered education,
custom medical research reports, inpatient safety monitoring, doctor appointment accompaniment, doctor/hospital evaluations and medical error disclosure support for patients and clinicians.
The PULSE of Florida online Bookstore has hundreds of patient safety books and products.
Active and retired healthcare professionals are encouraged to learn more and perhaps change careers
as a Professional Patient Safety Monitor. Call or see our web site for more information.
