3. Time-Out Checklist Boards - For Use Before and After Every Surgery and Procedure
- This service is now available -

The aviation industry has known it for decades and now the evidence is in about their
value in healthcare. Peer-reviewed medical articles agree:

“There is sufficient scientific evidence to make the use of checklists and structured perioperative briefings and debriefings mandatory for the broad spectrum of operative procedures.”
And, “Implementation of the checklist was associated with a greater than one-third reduction in complications among adult patients undergoing urgent noncardiac surgery in a diverse group of hospitals. Use of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist in urgent operations is feasible and should be considered.”
Effects of a comprehensive surgical safety system on patient outcomes
Incorporation of the WHO Safe Surgery guidelines into clinical practice
Effect of a 19-item surgical safety checklist during urgent operations

Checklist Boards are now available is several languages

PULSE of Florida encourages the use of Checklist Boards and
Employee Patient-Safety Culture Training.

Both are available now at:
Checklist Boards

4. Adverse Event Disclosure Services for Patients and Providers
PULSE of Florida developed a unique service to quickly help a patient
and family learn the details of an obvious or suspected medical error,
adverse event or negative treatment outcome.

What I am trying to accomplish? (My Aim)
To apply simple yet effective methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution techniques
to inform and support patients and families during the disclosure of a medical adverse event.
In addition, to inform and support medical professionals who participate in the disclosure
of adverse events.

How will I know change is an improvement? (Establishing Measures)
The documentation of patient satisfaction of being fully informed of the documented
facts of the adverse event. The documentation of providers offering empathy and settlement
to the person harmed by the adverse event. The improved business environment and public relations of the physician and hospital who make the transparent full disclosure.

The Disclosure Meetings are patient-centered, transparent conversations
with the patient, family, hospital officials and healthcare personnel who have
information about the event.

1. This is a non-adversarial alternative to litigation.

2. The goal: make the patient whole through disclosure, apology & restitution.

3. You're in control. We're with you before, during and after the meeting.

4. Call for a free consultation with our specially trained nurses and attorneys.

For Providers - Disclosure School
Eight states now have statutes that require hospitals and physicians to give a full disclosure
of the documented facts soon after a serious adverse event or negative treatment outcome.
The trend toward disclosure is now in states without the requisite statute.

As is the case with most things in the medico-legal world there is a right way and wrong way.
PULSE of Florida developed a method for providers to give a thorough disclosure the right way.
